DALLAS MAVERICKS PLAYOFFS 2006-07

Mavericks a team with good team effort and have build a good team in the recent years. In the NBA season 1998-99 Mavericks has the record (Won 14 - Lost 36 Winning % 28.0) from that they have come to 2006-007 record (Won 67 – Lost 15 Winning % 81.7) that is almost the reverse of what they have won-lost record. This is good to hear. Don Nelson has done a good job to build the team. Avery Johnson implemented the model that defense is the key rather than to run the ball. I agree a team has to have a good defense.

In the first round of NBA playoffs 2006-07 against Warriors the Mavericks are down 3-1. I have heard lot of people showing me two thumbs down and some Oh Yeah Mavericks but just not against Warriors. A part of me believes may be its true.

The Mistake:

As I mentioned Avery Johnson has done a good job, but I am not sure on what model he is having in mind and he is working on right now. Let’s just go back three weeks from now.

On game at Clippers on April 9th 2007 Mavericks played with full strength without resting any players and won the game (Clippers Vs Mavericks (W) 86 – 96)

On game at Oakland on April 17th Mavericks rested Erick Dampier, Josh Howard, Jerry Stackhouse and Dirk Nowitzki. Also neither Devin Harris nor Jason Terry was on the starting line up. Mavericks lost the game (Mavericks Vs Warriors (L) 82-111)

Probably Johnson would have thought for some surprise for Nelson in the Playoffs, but its not working till now when its important for them. I guess they should have played the other way around resting all the players against Clippers and played with full strength against Warriors and make it a little difficult for the Warriors.

Mavericks 2005-06 Playoffs:

Conference Quarterfinals:

Opponent: Memphis Grizzlies

Home Court: Yes

Series: Won 4 – 0

Conference Semifinals:

Opponent: San Antonio Spurs

Home Court: No

Series: Won 4 – 3

Conference Finals:

Opponent: Phoenix Suns

Home Court: Yes

Series: Won 4 – 2

Championship:

Opponent: Miami Heats

Home Court: Yes

Series: LOST 2 – 4

There are two reasons I want to point this out, I guess no one would have forgot that mavericks lead the Championship 2 – 0 and lost the next straight four games and the Championship. Secondly, in the First round (2005-06 NBA Playoffs) between Phoenix Suns (2) Vs Los Angeles Lakers (7) even though the series was won by Phoenix 4 –3 they were down in the series 1 – 3 and fought back to with the series. Will it happen like that for the Mavericks!

As I told part of me thinks may be Mavericks are not GOOD against Warriors, but in the same way as much as I Believe MAVERICKS has the potential to shock the warriors. Confidence would be a key I would guess as much as they are in the defense they should be in attacking the rim.

I still believe in MAVERICKS. I really don’t want to be disappointed once again, with the record of 81.7 % in the league and exiting in the First Round of Playoffs would be more embarrassing and would be a total disappointment than to lose in the Championship.

DON’T LET US DOWN MAVS. WE BELIEVE.

MAVERICKS GO FOR IT "THE CHAMPIONSHIP".
